Les Roches students create a human map of the world
Studying to become a hospitality industry leader of tomorrow is serious business, but it’s not all work, work, work.
On September 14th 2013, 300 Les Roches students worked with world-renowned video artist Guillaume Reymond of NOTsoNOISY, to create a gigantic world map, visible from the air.
Les Roches is proud to be at the forefront of hospitality management education and to be the first international hotel management school to offer such a course, as well as being the first to carry out an artistic endeavor of this magnitude.
Coordinating the event was an impressive feat. The artist choreographed the students and took over 1,000 digital pictures at regular intervals from a height of 15 meters. The series of 800 images pieced together, depicts an impressive, gigantic world map in motion.
The event was much more than a fun way for the Les Roches students to spend the afternoon. The creation speaks to the heart of what Les Roches stands for: an international hotel management school, which is truly global and innovative.
Following on from the success of an event in 2012, which saw Les Roches students set the Guinness World Record for the number of nationalities in a swimming pool, Les Roches seeks annually to create an event that showcases the innovation and internationalism on campus that makes true the saying ‘Les Roches is not just a school, it’s a way of life’.
Les Roches is not only international in its student body, but also truly global in its outlook; with campuses in Switzerland, China and Spain there are no limits to a Les Roches education and the careers available upon graduation. Having recently launched a Bachelor Degree in Global Hospitality Management, students can take advantage of this unique network by rotating through campuses in Switzerland, China and Spain.

NOTsoNOISY Guillaume Reymond (CH/FR)
Guillaume Reymond was born in 1969 and lives in Switzerland. He trained as an architect, but launched his own creative multimedia agency NOTsoNOISY in 2000. Gradually, his artistic projects and videos took over his graphic design activities.
He constantly develops new creations that are something between art, participatory events and buzz viral marketing. His videos are famous around the world through the internet. He has had nearly 27 million hits on YouTube alone.
His most famous piece « TETRIS » won the first « YouTube video award » in 2007, in the « creative » category. His success stems from the fact that he always finds original ways to create images and animated films, exploring simple, imaginative and funny approaches that refer to famous movies, video games, cartoons, objects or stories that relate to our current collective universe.
Most of his projects are huge funny participatory performances that gather anything from a few hundred to a thousand people, to create incredible animated stop motion videos. His artistic works have been exhibited in various group exhibitions around the world including Vevey, Bern, Basel, Berlin, Gent and Melbourne.
As an artist, he is regularly invited to various international festivals to carry out new projects. These festivals have included « Images » festival, Vevey (CH), « Les Urbaines Festival », Lausanne (CH), « Belluard Bollwerk International Festival », Fribourg (CH), « The Game is Up » festival, Vooruit, Ghent (BE), and « The Game Culture Switzerland », Centre Pompidou, Paris (FR)).

This brand new « THE WORLD IS HERE (Les Roches) » project was born following an invitation to the artist by Les Roches. The dynamic global international style of the school immediately inspired the artist to create with the students a gigantic animated human world map as seen from the sky. This wonderful collaboration was captured in the spirit of the final result: a video that is fun, original and dynamic.
